NEW MEXICO HUMANITIES COUNCIL CARES ACT GRANT:
“NEW MEXICO JEWISH PHYSICIANS AND THE INDIAN HEALTH SERVICE: 1960 – 1980”

NMJHS received a grant to interview six New Mexico Jewish physicians who served in the Indian Health Service at various locations to provide health care to traditionally underserved Native Americans residing in Navajo Nation or Pueblo communities.

These interviews tell the story not only of those physicians but also the environment in which they served and challenges they faced both professionally and personally. These six health care professionals graciously agreed to tell a story rarely known to New Mexicans and the public-at-large.
