Call for 2024 Fall Conference Papers and Sessions

“Building and Renewing Jewish Communities in New Mexico and Southern Colorado”

We invite papers, presentations, panel sessions or workshops on the topic of Jewish community renewal, building, and preservation in New Mexico and Southern Colorado or applicable examples from other regions. While New Mexico and Southern Colorado Jewish communities and institutions (especially those adjacent to the Santa Fe Trail) were prominent in the late 19th century, recent efforts have focused on reviving, sustaining and celebrating these communities for the 21st century and beyond.

Suggested topics may include but are not limited to:
• Examples of new and novel approaches to preserving Jewish communities and institutions; ensuring the relevance of Jewish institutions and history in rural communities.
• Personal and organizational stories and journeys into community, family history, renewal and preservation.
• Community and institutional life cycles.
• Other related topics will be considered.

Other information:
1. All presenters MUST register for the conference
2. We strongly encourage presenters not to read papers or presentations
3. Limited AV equipment and services will be available, such as PowerPoint presentations
4.Individual speakers should plan for 45 minutes, and panel sessions should be no longer 60 minutes in length, including time for Q&A with the audience.

Proposal Guidelines and Submission: The Conference Program Planning Committee requests that interested individuals or panelists submit a proposal that includes the following: Proposed Session Title; Session Format; Name(s) and titles of Speakers; length of session and presentation summary, 150 – 200 words; resumes; AV requirements, and contact information.
