TEXT ABOUT EVENT

NMJHS will coordinate with the Las Vegas, N.M. Montefiore Cemetery
Association for a Remembrance Program and Ritual Burial of Temple Aaron Siddurim.
For those wishing to travel on to Clayton, participants will check into hotel/motel
of their choosing. Those recommended are: The Eklund Hotel, the Best Western,
and Days Inn. Participants are responsible for arranging their own hotel/motel
accommodations either for one or two nights. Please see contact information
below.

Sunday evening a Chuck Wagon Dinner will be organized at a local ranch with
an historical overview of the area including the Hertzstein family, the coming of
the Railroad, Notorious outlaw, Black Jack Ketchum, and if there are no clouds,
phenomenal star gazing.

Monday morning after breakfast on one’s own, a tour of the Hertzstein Museum,
including lunch will be arranged followed by a walk along historic Main St. and a
visit/tour of the Luna Theatre (still in use) built in 1916 by the Hertzstein family
winding up at Union County Courthouse where Black Jack Ketchum was tried
and later hung. Black Jack also murdered a member of the Hertzstein family in
nearby Liberty, N.M.

The remainder of the afternoon is on your own followed by a no host dinner at
the historic Eklund Hotel.

After the morning/early afternoon program, those wishing to return home may do
so.

Transportation will be by private car including carpooling when possible. A rental
van MAY be possible with a volunteer driver either from Albuquerque or Santa Fe.

11:30 a.m. – 1:00/1:30 p.m. Walking tour of the Luna Theatre, Clayton Historic

Buildings, and Union County Courthouse including Black Jack Ketchum’s

hanging location

1:30 p.m.: Optional Sightseeing on Your Own OR return Home

6:00 p.m.: No -Host Dinner at the Historic Eklund Hotel

Tuesday May 30: Departure for Home
